So how is the project going?

October 2007

We have purchased a building near the center of Nowy Sacz which will have over 1000m2 space when renovation is complete. At a cost of 1 million zloties this is a miraculous step for a church in such a poor area. The purchase amount has been raised by the unparallelled sacrificial giving of local church members as well as sponsorship and donations from caring Christians and churches around the world.
We have a way to go yet before it is useable, so please keep up the giving!

We meet 3 times a week at 06.30am in the building for continued prayer for completion of this historical project.

The building

The building was originally constructed in the 1920s so has many original features in place. It's a building that is known to locals too, and situated in an area designated by the town council as a "public service area" - ie not for residential use - which suits our needs too.

In the past it has been a steel works and garage, and has been left unoccupied for some years - and so it in need of major renovation. The trade off, of course, was that this was an affordable building (some 4 times cheaper than elsewhere) and in a good location and of a size suitable for up to 400 people at a time.

The renovation

With the involvement of architects, lawyers, construction engineers and a large number of volunteers, we are now drawing up the final project and plans for the renovation. In order to do that we have had to temporarily patch up holes in the roof, repair foundations and clear the surrounding ground. We are constantly slowed down by beaurocracy and paperwork, but with tireless faith the church has all been involved in bringing this project to fruition.

We now have electricity supply!

Still to do (major projects):

  • We must replace the roof (cost £20,000/$40,000)
  • Change windows (£10,000/$20,000)
  • Add new cabling throughout (£8,000/$16,000)
  • Insulation and outside rendering (£4,000/$8,000)
  • New flooring thoughout (£5,000/$10,000)
  • Bathroom refit (£3,000/$6,000)
  • Kitchen refit (£3,000/$6,000)

Every small gift though also helps too and goes a long way here, so keep up the good work - it is already making a big difference.
